Public Radio International

Public Radio International (PRI) is an in Minneapolis , USA Canada based nonprofit - network of worldwide public or Publik radio stations . Public Radio International wants to convey information, backgrounds and cultural experiences from a globalized world. The network serves over 900 radio stations of the NPR network in the USA and can be heard online at www.pri.org .

history

PRI was founded in 1983 with the aim of diversifying the public radio program . Originally founded as American Public Radio , PRI changed its name to Public Radio International in 1994, documenting its increasingly globalized way of working and finding topics. In 1996 PRI launched The World , the first global public media news program. With "Classical 24" a 24-hour music service was also launched. In 2001 the culture and pop music program "Studio 360" and in 2008 "The Takeaway" , a morning news channel produced together with WNYC Radio , were added. This program is produced in collaboration with the BBC World Service , the New York Times and WGBH Radio Boston .

Cooperations

PRI works closely with foundations such as the Knight Foundation . Their Knight Prototype Fund financed the software development of the Drupal- based CMS module StoryAct in 2014/2015 with 35,000 dollars . In 2008, PRI agreed a multi-year partnership with the Californian Skoll Foundation to support social entrepreneurship in the media and online.

criticism

Charity Navigator , the largest US donation evaluation organization in existence since 2001, rated the performance and reliability of PRI in 2014 as being in the middle of the range of non-profit organizations.
