It was the Brecker brothers' first joint concert in many years and the first with the WDR Big Band. The CD was only released two years later on November 18, 2005 (#BHM 1004-2)

reception

Lee Poser wrote on Jazzreview: This is still the best musical interaction between the brothers to this day. It has flair, verve, imagination and an ironic sense of humor that makes it a great listening adventure. Very innovative!

Woodrow Wilkins wrote on All About Jazz : The Brecker Brothers were a fusion band, but Some Skunk Funk shows a different side to these musicians. In this big band formation they are in perfect shape. The original tunes were honored, but the solos from Randy, Michael and the other members of the band bring the album to the top.

On February 11, 2007, Michael Brecker was posthumously awarded the Grammy for the best jazz instrumental solo for the title track. The album received a Grammy for best album by a large jazz ensemble .
