Silent Night (rest 3) is a radio play with five people by Paul Plamper . The first broadcast took place on December 21, 2013 on WDR 3 radio.

content

The radio play revolves around the festivities of a blended family on Christmas Eve . In three segments of around 5:30 p.m. each, three such meetings will be presented, with a year having passed in between. There are five people present: little Arthur and his single mother Amarillis, their mother Iris, who doesn't want to be called "Grandma", and their younger friend Stefan and Amarillis' godfather Klaus, an ancient historian whose last book was about the "decline of the Roman Republic "acts. Also indirectly present is Grandpa Gottfried, from whom Iris has divorced, but who is still present with his presents for Arthur at Christmas.

Each of the Christmas evenings described begins with the son Arthur being called to the feast, but not being able to detach himself from his MacBook . Then we eat and recapitulate the year in dialogues overloaded with subtexts . Before the presents are given , there is the obligatory domestic " recorder concert ". Although “ Silent Night, Holy Night ” is played a lot crookedly , Klaus, for example, insists that this ritual be continued after reading the Gospel and listening to the Christmas Oratorio have been abolished.

This is followed by the giving of presents. The gifts are unpacked and evaluated. The highlight in the third segment is the new MacBook, which Arthur screeches happily when he has asked for a new device the year before because the old one has become so slow. At the very end, the first segment is repeated, suggestively, but the passage then flows smoothly into the list of production data and contributors.

Trivia

The subtitle "Ruhe 3" in brackets after the actual title refers to a series of works by Paul Plamper. It includes "Ruhe 1 (radio play in space)" from 2008 and "Tacet (rest 2)" from 2010.

criticism

In his criticism in the FAZ, Jochen Hieber praised the director's way of working, which is based on mimicry , that is, "on a speech spontaneity that appears to be authentic in the bar, kitchen, couch or bed conversation, but is actually filigree staged in his radio plays Gives live character ”.

Also Jens Bisky lifts in the SZ improvisation shares at Plampers productions indicate his resignation "to the known dramaturgical models and worn effects. He lets the characters talk, he's curious what they're up to. "
