Juarez Bomfim Tavares , actually Juarez Bomfim de Bomfim Tavares , (* in Raul Soares , State of Minas Gerais , Brazil ) is a Brazilian professional dancer , choreographer and dance teacher .

Life

Family and education

Juarez Bomfim Tavares was born in Raul Soares, a small town in southeastern Brazil. He comes from a family of artists. His mother is an actress, his sister played the violin . At the age of four he was already performing in folklore dances. At the age of seven he had his first dance performances. At the age of nine he began his professional training as a dancer. From 1974 he studied "Musical and Classical Ballet" at the Fundação Clovis Salgado Conservatory in Belo Horizonte . He also received training in modern dance , Afro-Brazilian dance, capoeira and jazz dance, Music and acting. After completing his studies, Bomfim moved to São Paulo .

Professional career as a dancer

In 1982 he became a member of the ballet ensemble of the Palácio das Artes ( Companhia de Dança do Palácio das Artes ) in Belo Horizonte. From 1983 to 1985 he was a solo dancer in the Ballet da Cidade de São Paulo of the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo . This was followed by engagements as a solo dancer at the Teatro Guaíra in Curitiba and as a guest solo dancer at the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro and at the Balé Teatro Castro Alves in Salvador . From 1985 to 1987 he had a scholarship at the Escuela Nacional de Cuba ballet school in Havana .

In the late 1980s / early 1990s, Bomfim Tavares came from Brazil to the Federal Republic of Germany via Cuba and New York City . In the season 1989/90 he was engaged as a ballet dancer with solo engagement at the Staatstheater Oberhausen . In 1990, during a study visit, he was a dancer at the Broadway Dance Center in New York City. From 1990 to 1992 he was a solo dancer at the Darmstadt State Theater for two years . From the 1992/93 season he was a member of the ballet ensemble of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe , from 1995 to 1999 there as a solo dancer. In 1995 he took part in the World Ballet Competition in Paris at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and in the World Ballet Competition Masako Ohya in Osaka .

In 2001 and 2002 he had a guest contract at the Nationaltheater Mannheim in Evita . In 2007 he worked in the Alte Feuerwache (Mannheim) in the cultural project Pimp-the-City , a production of the Mannheim National Theater in cooperation with ARGE Mannheim.

Dance teacher and pedagogue

After Bomfim Tavares had already worked as a choreography assistant and training manager for Eleven at the Darmstadt State Theater in the early 1990s, he completed a pedagogical training with a diploma as a dance teacher at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim in 2000/2001 .

Juarez Bomfim Tavares is currently (as of August 2015) the owner of his own dance school with a focus on salsa and capoeira with locations in Mannheim and Ludwigshafen am Rhein . He is also the organizer of dance shows with salsa, samba , capoeira, flamenco and oriental dance. He works as a Latino DJ with Brazilian-Cuban live music and gives seminars and workshops.
