Dance pedagogy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under Dance Education means the teaching and mediation of dance versus dance laymen of all ages. Both artistic and educational goals can be in the foreground. The former is the case when it comes to introducing dance forms of expression and design, techniques, styles or genres. However, pedagogical purposes can also dominate, if the focus is on body and movement training or if dance is the medium through which an examination of one's own personality or a communicative exchange in the group is to be stimulated. In contrast to dance therapy - this is more about the treatment of the individual client - dance pedagogy aims at a balance between body and personality development of the individual, social process in the group and artistic form (up to the performance in front of an audience).

history

Important reference points and sources of inspiration for the development of dance education for example, lie in the Rhythmiklehre of Émile Jaques-Dalcroze , the kinetics of Rudolf von Laban , the dance and movement concept of Anna Halprin and in ballet , in ballroom dancing , modern expressive dance in contemporary dance and in popular dance forms, styles and genres.

Fields of work

Dance teachers work with different age and target groups in areas such as dance education, dance mediation, health prevention, body work or even rehabilitation, namely in school, child and youth work, in adult education and cultural work, in ballet, dance and gymnastics schools, in fitness - / wellness / prevention area as well as in the social and therapeutic area. In order to be able to adequately lead dance lessons or dance projects with people of all ages, in addition to body-related and dance skills, rhythmic-musical and methodological-didactic skills are required.

In 2007, the Dance Advisory Board in the German Cultural Council formulated some requirements for the training of dance teachers. The Federal Association for Dance in Schools published a quality framework in 2011 as a guide.
