Ruth Johanna Benrath

Ruth Johanna Benrath (born 1966 in Heidelberg ) is a German author who writes poetry, novels, plays and radio plays.

Life

Ruth Johanna Benrath studied German , philosophy and history and did her doctorate in 2004 on the self-image of history teachers from the GDR before and after 1989. She taught at the Free University of Berlin , where she was employed as a research assistant . In addition to her two novels, which have been published by Steidl and Suhrkamp , she has appeared in interdisciplinary art projects and literary performances.

Lyric texts by Ruth Johanna Benrath have appeared in the Yearbook of Poetry and in the literary magazines Sinn und Form , Manuskripte and in the FAZ. Since 2015 she has been writing regularly in the logbook, the literary blog of Suhrkamp Verlag. Her literary writing has been honored with numerous grants and awards.

Ruth Johanna Benrath also writes sound art radio plays. Your piece GOES SEAL! A phonetic radio play dialogue with Elfriede Gerstl (ORF / BR 2019) was voted radio play of the month in April 2019 and subsequently radio play of the year and invited to the Austrian radio play days. Her artistic audio walk on Rosa Luxemburg , produced together with Anna Opel, was funded by the Berlin Senate in 2019 and will be presented by the Mitte-Museum Berlin. This will be followed in 2020 by an audio walk on Albrecht Haushofer on behalf of the German Resistance Memorial Center.
