Mrs. Ava Literature Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frau Ava Literature Prize has been awarded every two years since 2003 to an author who writes in German . It is advertised by the not-for-profit Ms. Ava Society for Literature , which was founded in December 2001 specifically to establish this prize. The reason for this was the upcoming 875th anniversary of Ava von Göttweig's death , the first German-speaking poet known by name. The company is made up of private individuals and representatives from the Austrian communities of Paudorf and Furth near Göttweig , where Ms. Ava worked.

The prize is awarded for a prose text that deals in a new and innovative way in language and form with topics in the area of tension between spirituality , religion and politics and is aimed at adult and young readers. Applicants must have already published at least one volume of poetry or prose, with self- published works not being taken into account. An Austrian expert jury will decide on the award.

The prize consists of a statuette Frau Ava created by the Paudorf sculptor Leo Pfisterer , as well as the financing of a reading tour through Austria and a publicity campaign for the winner. The Ms. Ava Society for Literature is making funds available to the amount of around 10,000 euros. The prize is not redeemable in cash.
