biography
Ulrike Haage spent her childhood in the Ruhr area. She found her way to music at a young age through her parents' jazz record collection. She practiced the piano with recordings by Bill Evans and Thelonious Monk . She later sang and played guitar in a garage band.
Haage moved to Hamburg and studied music and music therapy there. From 1985 to 1989 she worked as a lecturer for improvisation at the music college. She began to compose and performed as a pianist in the first German women's big band, Reichlich Feminine . While working on Peter Zadek's Andi , she got to know FM Einheit . Alfred Harth founded the group Vladimir Estragon with her , in which Haage used electronic sounds. The quartet later became the Trio Goto with Phil Minton as vocal acrobat.
From 1990 to 1999 she played in Katharina Franck's group Rainbirds . Between tours and recordings for the Rainbirds and the theater music group Stein , she worked at the Schauspielhaus Zürich (with Uwe Eric Laufenberg ), Düsseldorf (with Kazuko Watanabe ) and Berlin (including the musical theater piece The Ballade of Narayama with Kazuko Watanabe). 1999 began a collaboration with the actress Meret Becker . Ulrike Haage became the musical director of the Nachtmahr concert program and recorded the Fragiles CD . Together with the publisher Sylvia de Hollanda (Pociao's Books) she founded the audio book publisher Sans Soleil .
In 2003 she was the first woman and the youngest to date to receive the German Jazz Prize (Albert Mangelsdorff Prize) , which honored her for her life's work to date, her work at the intersection of pop, art and avant-garde. The composition cycle For all my walking was created in 2012 during her three-month artist residency at Villa Kamagowa, Kyoto Japan. In the following year Ulrike Haage spent 12 months as artist-in-residence of the Leuphana Arts Program at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg to deal with the topic of public space as a sound space . It was created between sound and silence. Between sound and silence , an audio-visual work that was performed on September 14, 2013 in Lüne Monastery .
In September 2015 her fourth solo album "Maelstrom" was released. In addition, two more radio plays Lockbuch and Geld came out.
