Life

Joey Goebel was born in 1980 to Adam Goebel and Nancy Bingemer. Both the parents and his older sister CeCe are social workers . He wrote his first story at the age of five. Before he published his debut novel with The Anomalies (name of the German-language edition: Freaks ) in 2003, he was the front man , guitarist and songwriter of the punk band The Mullets and toured the American Midwest between 1996 and 2001. He was later a singer and guitarist with the band Novembrists , with whom he released a CD.

In 2005 Vincent was published as his first book in German . It was followed by Freaks in 2006 , Heartland in 2009 and Me versus Osborne in 2013 . All four novels were published by Diogenes Verlag .

Goebel holds a bachelor's degree in English from Brescia College in Owensboro , Kentucky and a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from the University of Louisville .

After four novels, the Kentucky writer published his first volume of short stories, Someday It Will Be Good . All of the stories share an emotional state, all the protagonists are very lonely, and an attitude that protects against tipping over into the merely emotional: "the joke with which you see yourself and the one with which the author draws you".
