Peter Stephan Jungk

Peter Stephan Jungk (born December 19, 1952 in Santa Monica , California ) is an Austrian-American German-speaking writer.

life and work

Peter Stephan Jungk's parents were journalist and futurologist Robert Jungk and Ruth Jungk, née Ruth Suschitzky. He grew up first in the United States and after 1957 in Vienna . From 1968 to 1970 he attended the Rudolf Steiner School in Berlin , and from 1970 until his Matura in 1972 he lived in Salzburg . In 1973 he worked as an assistant director at the Basel Theater . From 1974 to 1976 he studied at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles .

From 1976 to 1979 he was resident in Salzburg again. In 1977 he worked as Peter Handke's assistant director on the filming of Handke's The Left-Handed Woman . In 1980, the native Jew Jungk attended a Torah school in Jerusalem . In 1981 he moved back to Vienna. Since 1988 he has lived in Paris with his wife, the photographer Lillian Birnbaum . In 1994 the daughter Adah Dylan was born. In 2011 he took on a visiting professorship for contemporary German literature at Washington University in St. Louis and in 2012 a visiting professorship at the University of Salzburg .

Peter Stephan Jungk is the author of novels , essays and screenplays , some of which he directed himself to film . He also translates from English.

Peter Stephan Jungk is a member of the Austrian PEN Club.
