Christopher Durang

Christopher Durang (born January 2, 1949 in Montclair , New Jersey ) is an American playwright and actor. The author had his greatest successes in the 1980s.

After Durang attended a Catholic school, he moved to Harvard College and later to the Yale School of Drama .

Durang's works, in which he primarily addresses child abuse , the dogmas and teachings of the Catholic Church and homosexuality , are especially popular with theater students and supporters of alternative political theater. Some of his plays have also been staged on Broadway .

In addition to plays, Durang has also written scripts , such as B. for therapy pointless directed by Robert Altman. He has also appeared as an actor himself , for example at the side of Sigourney Weaver in one of his plays.

Durang has received various awards and honors for his work and his works. He received two Obie Awards and was nominated for the " Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical". He is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and is responsible for the Playwriting Program at the Juilliard School .
