Dramatists Guild of America

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dramatists Guild of America ( DGA ) is an influential professional organization of playwrights , composers and lyricists in the US theater industry, based on Broadway in New York City .

The interest group has its almost hundred-year-old origins in the Authors' League of America (ALA) , founded in 1912 , which was divided into the two branches of the Dramatists Guild for stage and radio and the Authors Guild (AG) for writers, novelists and non-fiction authors in 1921 . The organization has been suing Google for copyright infringement (Google Book Search Settlement Agreement) since 2008 , which also affects members of the organization.

The purpose is to support the members in all areas of contract law and the exploitation of rights and to offer model contracts for this purpose. She has drawn up her own Bill of Rights , in which the rights of composers, librettists and playwrights are listed.

The association currently maintains representations in 17 states and has around 6,000 members (as of 2011).

Past presidents include Arthur Miller , Eugene O'Neill, and Tennessee Williams .
