Yale School of Drama

The Yale School of Drama, located in New Haven , Connecticut, is part of Yale University and a premier theater education institution in the United States .

As part of a graduate school, it offers training in acting, directing, dramaturgy and the professions of theater writer and critic and - but also for the technical aspects of stage design such as costume design, set design, light and sound direction as well as for commercial aspects (theater management).

YSD operates in partnership with the Yale Repertory Theater .

history

Yale University's active theater association, the Yale Dramatic Association , founded in 1900, was the origin of today's institution . In 1924, the patron Edward S. Harkness found himself ready to finance a drama department at the School of Fine Arts at Yale University and at the same time to build a corresponding theater building. The first Master of Fine Arts in drama was awarded in 1931. In 1955 the department was elevated to a school, i.e. to the faculty rank. Yale played a pioneering role within the Ivy League here . In 1966 the Yale Repertory Theater was established.
