Christopher David "Chris" Noth (born November 13, 1954 in Madison , Wisconsin ) is an American actor . He is mainly through his role as Detective Mike Logan in the series Law & Order and Criminal Intent - crime in the sights as well as "Mr. Big ”in the television series Sex and the City .

Life

After Chris Noth's father, insurance agent Charles Noth, passed away at an early age, he traveled with his mother Jeanne Parr, a CBS Europe correspondent , through Europe and lived in Great Britain , Yugoslavia and Spain , among others . After graduating from Marlboro College , Vermont , he received a Masters of Fine Arts from the Yale School of Drama .

Noth is a co-owner of New York City restaurant and music club The Cutting Room and nightclub The Plumm . He also has interests in other clubs in the United States and Canada.

In the 1990s, Noth dated model and actress Beverly Johnson. On April 6, 2012, he married his long-time partner, Canadian actress Tara Lynn Wilson. She was working in The Cutting Room when they met. Their son was born on January 18, 2008.

Career

After several minor roles, he played a first leading role in the film Jakarta in 1988 . His breakthrough came in 1990 with the television series Law & Order , in which he was one of the first cast. In 1995 he left the series due to the desire for artistic change. In 1998, Noth resumed his role in the televised film Punished - Murder in Manhattan . Noth worked on the script and contributed to the fact that the character he played, Detective Mike Logan, was at the center of the film.

From 1998 he took on the role of the relationship-resistant John James "Mr. Big “Preston in the hit series Sex and the City . In 2000 he was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a series. From 2006 he took his role as Mike Logan on Law & Order - offshoot Criminal Intent - Crime in the sights for the relays 5 to 7 again. Then he got out because they were not prepared to pay Noth a higher fee. In 2008 and 2010, Noth appeared in the first and second Sex-and-the-City films.

From 2009 to 2016 he played the unfaithful politician Peter Florrick in Good Wife alongside Julianna Margulies . The role earned him a 2011 Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
