Evgen Bavčar (born October 2, 1946 in Lokavec , Ajdovščina municipality , Slovenia ) is a blind photographer of Slovenian origin.

Life

Evgen Bavčar's father († 1953) came from a family of coppersmiths and his mother from a family whose ancestors were Austrian nobility. A sister was born in 1947. At the age of twelve, Bavčar first injured his left eye with a twig. A few months later, a mine detonator also wounded the right eye. His vision lost Bavčar gradually over a period of several months, which seemed like a slow farewell from light. His first photographs were taken at the age of sixteen.

Bavčar attended school at the Ljubljana Institute for the Blind and the grammar school in Nova Gorica . He studied history at the University of Ljubljana , which he graduated with a diploma in 1972. Bavčar then began studying philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris, which he completed in 1976. During his photo sessions, he prefers to be supported by children. His works can be seen in numerous exhibitions in Europe.

Bavčar lives and works in Paris; he is in possession of a French passport.
