Hermann Bohlen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann Bohlen (born April 4, 1963 in Celle ) is an author and producer of radio plays and radio plays . Bohlen studied Sinology in Hamburg , Berlin and Shanghai from 1986 to 1992 . His first radio plays were written during his studies and he has been working as a freelance radio play maker since 1995.

Life

Bohlen's early pieces like Chewed !! (Until it runs down by itself) (1990) and Die Wauwautheorie (1995) play with the sounds of language and show a pataphysical interest in the philosophy of language. Chewed !! portrays the life reformer Horace Fletcher in an artificial language made up of German, Low German, English, Chinese and French; Wauwautheorie is about onomatopoeia .

With Procedure 7.7.0 (1996), Bohlen uses  the original audio play as a fake, following the tradition of the radio play War of the Worlds staged by Orson Welles as a radio report . Bohlens play introduces a world in which those who refuse to communicate are implanted with transponder chips for identification . As in almost all of his radio plays, this one speaks exclusively to laypeople. "Although the manipulation effort is enormous, Bohlen goes beyond some attempts at apparently transparent truth-finding in the documentary original audio play, with whose genre-specific requirements he plays with virtuosity."

In 'Sack hau'n (1996) works “as a simulation (or as a fake) of interactivity. (...) characters from (the) story as well as literature telephone users comment and criticize (the) story ”.

In Say it, too, or Das Luxurieren der Bastarde (1998), Bohlen assembles private sound recordings found elsewhere on flea markets and creates a “fascinating, 50-minute panorama of a transition period between the slowly fading war and the slowly emerging pop”. He proceeds in a very similar way in Onager (2004), even though he creates more intimate situations here.

Since procedure 7.7.0 all of his pieces were improvised according to the author's instructions, he only rarely works in Grasses Flying (2005) for the first time again with a production manuscript . The Süddeutsche Zeitung called this radio play the “high point of his work so far”. Bohlens "first-person narrator seems like a revenant Robert Walser who walks through George Orwell's 1984".

In 2000, Bohlen designed and presented the plop competition for independent radio playmakers at the Berlin Academy of the Arts , of which he was appointed a member in 2009.

His radio play Lebensabend in Übersee , WDR 2014, was nominated for the Prix Italia 2015 and the radio play award of the war blind .
