Ror Wolf ; originally: Richard Georg Wolf , pseudonym: Raoul Tranchirer (born June 29, 1932 in Saalfeld / Saale , Thuringia ; † February 17, 2020 in Mainz ) was a German writer and artist .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1951, Wolf was refused to study because of his middle-class background. He worked as a construction worker for two years before he left the GDR in July 1953 and went to the West. In Stuttgart he initially worked as a laborer for a year. Wolf then enrolled at the University of Frankfurt am Main to study literature, sociology and philosophy and soon began to publish prose, poetry and photo collages, as well as literature, theater and jazz reviews in the student newspaper Diskus . Wolf became a feature editor at Diskus and later literature editor at Hessischer Rundfunk ; since 1963 he has been a freelance writer. In Frankfurt, Wolf belonged to the circle of friends of the photographer Abisag Tüllmann .

Ror Wolf lived and worked in Mainz after moving more than thirty . The stage name is made up of the letter R from Richard and or in Georg; He developed the pseudonym Tranchirer from the first name spoken backwards: Drahcir ~ tranchir = Tranchirer (cutter).

Wolf's writing career began in 1958 with publications in the discus . In 1964, his first novel, Continuation of the Report , appeared, which can be seen as one of the few examples of a German-language nouveau roman and reveals an intensive examination of the book The Shadow of the Body of the Coach by Peter Weiss . As a result, Wolf continued to develop his prose, which he had trained in Samuel Beckett , Franz Kafka and Robert Walser , and which quickly found a tone that was as artistic as it was unmistakable; books such as Pilzer and Pelzer (1967) and The Dangerousness of the Great Plain (1976) have appeared. Later, in Nachrichten aus der Inhabied Welt (1992) and two or three years later (2003), a radical compression occurs with a simultaneous external scarcity of its prose. Influences from surrealism , fantasy , adventure and crime literature are just as evident as humorous and erotic motifs, which make his books extremely entertaining despite all literary claims. This applies in particular to the poems collected in Prospects for New Experiences (1996) and Pfeifers Reisen (2007).

Wolf's theme was a playful, profound examination of reality, which for him only exists as a highly melodious word space. Nevertheless, his books, which confidently overcome the boundaries of traditional narrative patterns, were by no means language games without reference to reality. How much reality can be reproduced with Wolf's method was shown very clearly in the popular football books and the associated radio collages: "The world was not football, but in football, that's no secret, there is a whole lot of world" ( RW). Wolf was fascinated by what is behind football, what is recognizable through it and can be represented through it - e.g. B. two completely different ways of commenting on the same game (cf. the radio play Córdoba June 1.45 p.m. , 1979). With this in mind, he has assembled numerous works from original quotes from journalists and fans. - Since 1969, Ror Wolf has also made a name for himself as a radio writer. The life and death of the cornet player Bix Beiderbecke from North America (1986) was awarded the War Blind Radio Play Prize in 1988 and is one of the most successful German radio plays thanks to numerous broadcasts.

Ror Wolf was also a visual artist. Since the early sixties he has been making - in this respect Max Ernst , but also comparable to Peter Weiss - surrealistic collages with materials from the early days , which he took from old encyclopedias, magazines and etiquette. Complemented by appropriate text concentrates, the motifs obtained in this way formed the encyclopedia for intrepid readers , which had been in six volumes since 1983 and could be read as a parody of erudition, authority and positivist strategies for recognizing the world.

Ror Wolf was the honorary captain of the Autonama team, founded in 2005 .

In April 2006, Wolf announced in an interview in the daily newspaper that he wanted to destroy the sound archive he had created while working on the radio collages, because he would no longer deal with it, although he had a lot to pass on. It didn't come to that. At the end of 2007, the German Literature Archive in Marbach was given an initial bundle of early manuscripts and correspondence. Parts of Vorlasses are Museum of Modern Literature seen in Marbach in the permanent exhibition. He left the radiophonic usage coordinated with the scientific development to the Südwestrundfunk . This resulted in the radio play Attack is the Best Defense - a radio play by Hermann Bohlen read by Ror Wolf , first broadcast on SWR2 on July 3, 2009. In 2011 and 2012 the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published several collages and excerpts from the unpublished novel Twenty Nine Attempts, Die Welt to devour . In 2015 , some episodes of his collages on Ror Wolf's rhymed worlds and on the new work Ror Wolf: The Suddenly Creeping Cold in December were published, also in the FAZ . From March 6 to April 24, 2016, the Bensheim Museum showed a representative selection of his surreal collages under the title Ror Wolfs wunderbare Welten.
