Thomas Voigt (journalist)

Thomas Voigt (* 1960 in Hagen ) is a German journalist and filmmaker .

Life

Voigt grew up in Herdecke and studied German, Protestant theology and sociology at the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1980 to 1985 . In 1984 he wrote his first texts for the Berlin opera magazine Orpheus , from 1986 to 1992 he worked as a freelancer, for the music magazines Fono Forum and Opernwelt , for WDR and ZDF , among others .

From 1992 to 1996 Voigt was editor of Opernwelt, from 1996 to 1998 Promotion Manager at EMI Classics , from 1998 to 2004 editor-in-chief of Fono Forum. Since 2004 he has been working freelance again, as a journalist (including for Deutschlandradio , WDR and BR ), filmmaker, presenter, lecturer and singer coach. After film and book projects with Jonas Kaufmann , he has also been working as his media manager since 2011.

The focus of Voigt's work as a journalist and filmmaker are (interview) portraits of important artists in a contemporary historical context. Since 2006 he has made a number of documentaries with Wolfgang Wunderlich that are regularly broadcast on television and released on DVD and Blu-ray. For the 100th birthday of the soprano Birgit Nilsson , Voigt and Wunderlich shot the film A League of her own in 2018 .

Voigt has lived in Cologne since 1993 .
