Ludwig Fels
Ludwig Fels (born November 27, 1946 in Treuchtlingen , † January 11, 2021 in Vienna ) was a German writer . From 1983 he lived in Vienna.
Life
Ludwig Fels, who came from a middle-class family and grew up without a father, began after visiting the elementary school a painting apprenticeship, which he broke off. From 1964 he worked in various auxiliary and odd jobs, including as a worker in a brewery, machinist and punch. In 1970 he moved to Nuremberg , where he worked as a packer in a semiconductor factory. He was briefly a member of the “ Working Group on Literature in the Working World ”. From 1973 Fels was a freelance writer. In that year he published his first volume of poetry "Anllauf". After further volumes of prose and poetry collections, his first novel “The Sins of Poverty” followed in 1975. From 1981, Fels was a member of the PEN Center Germany . In 1983 he moved to Vienna. In addition to narrative works and poetry , he also wrote plays and radio plays .
In his younger years Fels saw himself as a “working-class writer” without being attributed to any particular ideological tendency. His often aggressive, eloquent prose and lyric poetry was rather determined by anger and anger over oppression in all forms and the structures of oppression of certain strata of society. The literary criticism also referred to him as a "proletarian writer". Later, Fels rejected the designation "worker writer" for himself.
Ludwig Fels died in Vienna in January 2021 at the age of 74.
