Hans Fallada Prize
The Hans Fallada Prize of the City of Neumünster is a literary prize that has been awarded every two years since 1981. In accordance with the award guidelines, the city wants to honor younger authors from German-speaking countries who, like the namesake Hans Fallada, deal with present-day problems with a political and social background in their works.
The external reason for the foundation of the award was the 50th anniversary of the publication of Fallada's novel Bauern, Bonzen und Bombs . In this novel, Fallada, who has lived in Neumünster since 1928 as an employee of the Generalanzeiger for Neumünster , describes events related to the Schleswig-Holstein rural people movement , etc. a. the bloody demonstration of Schleswig-Holstein farmers and the subsequent trial that took place in Neumünster in 1929.
The award is endowed with 10,000 euros; If the award is given to two winners, the endowment is halved.
