The Kammerflimmer Kollektief is a Karlsruhe band that combines elements of improvised noise music or free jazz with electronics , ambient and new music .
history
The project was founded in 1996 by Thomas Weber . In 1999 the one-man project became a six-member band. In the same year, the debut album Mäander appeared on Payola Records. In the course of time the band experienced several changes of line-up, meanwhile three band members are involved. The band's albums have been released by Staubgold since Absencen (2005).
style
Weber's compositions, which were initially created primarily electronically in the studio, were mixed with recordings of “real” instruments, with a lot of improvisation during concerts.
The band's music is difficult to categorize and has been described “as if William Parker was jamming with Lee Scratch Perry and the Velvet Underground . [...] a collision of the world we know with an unknown one. ”Occasionally, the group’s music is compared to that of Bohren & the Club of Gore or The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble and assigned to dark jazz .
