Stefan Scheib (* 1965 in Völklingen ) is a German musician ( double bass , electric bass ), composer and music teacher .

Scheib studied electric bass and double bass at the Conservatoire de Musique in Luxembourg , he also received private lessons a. a. with Gary Willis or attended workshops (e.g. with Mark Dresser , Adelhard Roidinger ). He is active in various ensembles in the fields of jazz , improvised music and new music and is particularly involved in interdisciplinary projects.

He worked with Wollie Kaiser , Jochen Krämer , Frank Wingold , Rudi Mahall , Thomas Bracht , Jimi Berlin , Christof Thewes , Elisabeth Flunger and Wolfgang Schliemann , among others . In 1997, together with Katharina Bihler , he founded the Liquid Penguin Ensemble , an artist group for radio plays , music theater , performances and sound installations in which he works as a composer and bassist.

Other ensembles include a. Feinkost Decker (contemporary jazz with Sven Decker , Katrin Scherer and Christoph Hillmann ), Hors du Cadre (deep string trio with Julien Blondel and Monika Bagdonaite), Ensemble InZeit (new chamber music and improvisation).

Stefan Scheib received composition commissions a. a. by SR Festival Mouvement (2006), Ensemble Ricercare (2008), Quatuor Plus (2011), Opera Mobile (2011) and Radio Tatort (2009–2013).

Stefan Scheib teaches electric bass and double bass at the Saar University of Music .
