Thomas Bracht

Franz Thomas Bracht (* 1970 ) is a German jazz musician (piano, composition ).

From 1991 to 1995 Bracht studied jazz piano and composition with Kris Defoort at the Conservatory of Luxembourg City ; he also took part in workshops and seminars with Bobby Shew (big band arrangement), John Taylor (jazz piano) and Maynard Ferguson (big band).

Bracht has been working as a freelance artist since 1994 and has written compositions and arrangements for the Saarland Youth Jazz Orchestra. Since 1997 he has been the leader of the Liesertal Big Band , with which he recorded the album Keep It Swinging . Bracht is also one of four members of the LBB Rhythm Kings , which consists of the rhythm section of the Liesertal Big Band .

He was also the musical director of various projects at the Trier Theater and played in record and radio productions in the fields of new music, jazz and pop, for example with the Liquid Penguin Ensemble , with Katharina Bihler and Stefan Scheib . With the Liquid Penguin Ensemble he was involved in theater productions such as Zapping - Ein Stück über Zeit (1998) and radio play productions such as Paul Auster : Schlagschatten (1997/1999, Der Hörverlag) and Arthur Gordon Pym (2001). Bracht was also active as a composer for jazz ensembles, big band and incidental music.

Bracht led the band engelsQ (album of the same name in 1999); In 2010 he performed with his trio. Since 2003 he has been a member of Waltzing's guest band Largo with guest appearances in many European countries and Asia, which released the albums Fables of Lost Time (2003) and Long Journey (2005) for Warner. Bracht has performed at concerts with Adam Pierończyk , Christof Thewes , Jörg Kaufmann , Maynard Ferguson , the Orchester National de Jazz Luxembourg , Paquito D'Rivera , Sascha Ley , Wollie Kaiser , Frank Hemmerlé as well as Nils Landgren , Didier Lockwood , Bart van Lier and Dee Dee Bridgewater up.

In 2015 his CD “Unterwegs” feat. Nils Wogram - Trombone at Portabile Music Trier ; In 2019, Unit Records released the album Don't Play to Impress , on which the Thomas Bracht Band presented Sven Decker as a further guest alongside Wogram .
