Gary Willis

Gary Willis (* 28. March 1957 in Longview , Texas) is an American electric bassist , composer , Transkripteur and bass teacher (u. A. At the Musicians Institute (Los Angeles) and in Barcelona), by the by him and Scott Henderson founded Band Tribal Tech became known.

Live and act

Willis, whose father was a pianist and musical director of the gospel choir of a Christian community, grew up with music from an early age. He started playing bass when he was 13 years old. His three-finger technique, in which three (instead of two) fingers of the right hand is plucked, is particularly characteristic of his game. This allows you to play very quickly and evenly with little effort and effort and is extremely efficient despite the high learning curve. Occasionally Willis also uses his thumb to pluck. In addition to his work with tribal tech, he played with musicians such as Wayne Shorter , Dennis Chambers and Allan Holdsworth and released several solo albums. He is an endorser for the Japanese instrument manufacturer Ibanez and is considered an exceptional talent in the jazz rock and fusion scene.

Willis now lives in Barcelona and teaches jazz guitar at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya .
