Hermann Kretzschmar (composer)

Hermann Kretzschmar (* 1958 ) is a German pianist and composer.

He first studied school music and German and then piano with Bernhard Ebert in Hanover . In 1985 he became a member of the Ensemble Modern ; he works there as a soloist and chamber musician. In 1994 he founded HCD-Productions together with Catherine Milliken and Dietmar Wiesner. HCD has released the CDs Migrations (works by Paul Bowles ), Surface Tension (works by Thomas Skempton) and the audio pieces Denotation Babel (Prix Italia 1999), Cosmic Memos after Calvino and The Blossom of the Naked Body (R. Schrott, 2011). Since 2001 Kretzschmar has realized the following radio plays: Zur Zeit-revisited (2001/3), John Cage's stages (2002), Strahlungen (2004) ( radio play of the month in May), Harmonies of Paradise (2006), Doctor Faustus (2007), Arnold auf the beautiful mountain (2009), Death in Rome (2009), Het Witte Kind (2010), Kuno Kohns Capriccio (2011), Soundcuts Wasserkuppe (2011). On his portrait CD with Ensemble Modern Medien he published Knott's piano , works 1991–2007.

His radio play Superpsalm was heard on SWR2 on April 28, 2016 and will be released in a cassette from October 11, Die Bibel. The project appear. In June 2016 Audiobook Hamburg published the novel Manhattan Transfer based on John Dos Passos , which Kretzschmar edited together with Leonhard Koppelmann .

His latest radio play "Das Bad im Knall" was broadcast as a first broadcast on January 25, 2018 on SWR 2. "The Bad in Bang" deals with the brevity of u. a. Sounds and words. The style of the Wiener Gruppe (Konrad Bayer) in particular was an important literary influence.

Also in 2018 the audio book editing of Proust's "Sodom und Gomorrha" had its broadcast premiere on SWR 2, in which Kretzschmar was involved in the text editing alongside Manfred Hess. He also composed the music for the audio version, which was played by the Ensemble Modern.
