Edwin Ortmann

Edwin Ortmann (born March 5, 1941 in Munich ) is a German writer and translator .

Life

Edwin Ortmann is the son of a lawyer and grew up in Munich , where he completed high school and a language school. He was studying in Great Britain , France and Spain . He worked as a mini-car driver, unskilled worker, impresario, etc. to finance his studies and later his writing. After working as a translator for the Sorbonne , he settled in Munich in 1965 as a freelance translator and journalist . He kicked u. a. with essays on Latin American literature. Ortmann also published literary works from the beginning of the 1980s . In 1980 he took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt . Today he lives in Munich and Formentera .

Edwin Ortmann is the author of novels , short stories , essays and radio plays . In addition, he translated from English , French and Spanish until 1981 .

Edwin Ortmann belonged to the Association of German Writers and the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works . From 1981 he was a board member of the Association of German Writers in Bavaria and on the board of VS Bayern.

In 1981 he received a grant from the German Literature Fund ; In 1993 he was the town clerk of Semur-en-Auxois .

Ortmann then devoted himself primarily to the medium of radio plays. Most recently: “Die Clowns, die Liebe, der Tod” (SWR 2000); “Soledades - a lighthouse concert” (DLR / NDR 2001); “The longed-for hug - Lorca, Dalí, Buñuel” (NDR / DLR 2001); “The last lighthouse keeper” (SWR / DLR 2003).

In the following years Ortmann turned his back on the literary business. The author plans future publications from the material in his work diaries kept during these years.
