Andreas Monday

Andreas Montag (born March 4, 1956 in Gotha ) is a German journalist and writer .

Life

After graduating from high school, Andreas Montag completed an apprenticeship as a librarian at the “Erich Weinert” college for librarians in Leipzig . He then studied at the "Johannes R. Becher" literature institute . His novel Karl der Große or Die Suche nach Julie was published in 1986 by Mitteldeutscher Verlag Halle (Saale) . He worked as a packer, as a hospital chaplain, as a librarian and since 1986 as a freelance writer, first in Leipzig, since 1988 in Halle (Saale). In 1990 he took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt . In the same year he became a member of the editorial team of the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung in Halle (Saale) and has been head of the culture department there since 1996.

Andreas Montag is the author of narrative prose and texts and articles on art, theater, politics and current affairs. The volume The Further Metamorphosis of the Gaze with stories from the last years of the GDR , whose publication was prevented in 1989 by the events of the turning point , was only published by Mitteldeutsche Verlag in 2007. Its 2008 - after more than twenty years of absence from the large form - was also published by Mitteldeutscher Verlag Roman Mannestreu describes the life stories of a post-war Germany quietly and melancholy. Andreas Montag relates this novel to his debut: The main character from Charlemagne walks through the picture in a supporting role - as an aged (and lonely) melancholic.

In November 2017 the artist book “Paradies” with poems by Andreas Montag and graphics by Hélène Habbot Bautista (Paris) was published by Corvinus Press

Andreas Montag was a member of the GDR Writers' Association until it was dissolved in 1990. In 1986 he received the Mitteldeutscher Verlag award. He has been a member of the PEN Center Germany since 2015 .

He lives with his partner and their two children in Halle (Saale) and Berlin.
