Pierre Oser (* 1956 in Mainz ) is a German composer , musician and conductor .

biography

Born as the son of a Franco-German family in Mainz in 1956, Pierre Oser studied in Munich from 1978 to 1981 at the Jazz School (piano with Jo Haider), and then from 1981 to 1986 at the Richard Strauss Conservatory (concert exam piano with Benedikt Köhlen ).

In addition to his studies, Osers began active work in various formations and projects as a composer, keyboardist and pianist . He worked as a pianist with the Wasteland Company (William Osborne and Abbie Conant).

Since 1988 he has worked intensively with silent film music and has worked closely with the German Film Museum Frankfurt and other film archives. There were adaptations of original compositions z. B. on the armored cruiser Potemkin ( Sergej Eisenstein ), Tartüff ( Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau ), The Adventures of Prince Achmed ( Lotte Reiniger ), as well as numerous new dubbing on behalf of international festivals, television and radio stations. So z. For example, in the opening program for the 2001 Munich Film Festival, the first performance of the orchestral music for Die Lampen Asiens ( Franz Osten ) on behalf of ZDF / Arte, as well as the new setting for Michael ( Carl Theodor Dreyer ) for the 2006 Biennale .

In 2009 Oser wrote the music for Der Bettler vom Kölner Dom ( Rolf Randolf ) for the radio orchestra of the WDR and ZDF / Arte . (First performance 2010 in the Bismarcksaal of Westdeutscher Rundfunk / Cologne). He played and conducted his compositions and arrangements in countless concerts in Europe, Asia and America.

Since 1993, Pierre Oser has been working as a composer, stage musician and musical director for various theaters (including the Residenztheater in Munich , the Schauspielhaus in Vienna , the Saarbrücken State Theater , the Salzburg State Theater , the Hanoi National Theater, theaters in Berlin, Zurich and Erlangen) and others. a. with the director Beverly Blankenship, as well as Eberhard Köhler and Ruedi Straub.

Pierre Oser has been writing and producing numerous pieces of music for radio play and audio book productions since the mid-1990s . In a close collaboration with the director Walter Adler , which continues to this day , compositions for Otherland ( Tad Williams ), the Orient Cycle ( Karl May ), 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas ( Jules Verne ) and the Stieg Larsson Millennium were created, among many others -Trilogy delusion, damnation, forgiveness . The WDR radio orchestra commissioned the composer for a concert piece based on this music (premiere 2008).

From 1997 to 2002 Pierre Oser headed the audio book publisher Tympano , which has numerous award-winning publications a. a. to visual artists (van Gogh, Gauguin, Rodin, Dali, Kandinsky / Münter, Monet etc.), and whose program was distributed by Prestel Verlag Munich. Since 2003, compositions for TV and cinema productions, short films and documentaries and series have been created on behalf of public broadcasters and other production companies.

In 2010, on behalf of the Goethe Institute and for the German Year of Culture in Vietnam , Pierre Oser wrote the large, multi-disciplinary music theater work Der durch das Tal goes for singers, dancers, actors and orchestra based on a libretto by Tankred Dorst . The multilingual work tells the story of the young Parzival . The Through the Valley premiered at the Hanoi Opera in January 2011 with the participation of the Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vietnam National Opera & Ballet Theater under the direction of the composer.
