Karlijn Stoffels

Karlijn Stoffels (born June 24, 1947 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch author of young books .

Life

Stoffels studied Romance and Dutch Studies at the University of Leiden and worked as a French teacher and translator. Stoffels writes children's and youth literature as well as radio plays and plays.

Inspired by a play by Burkhardt Söll , Stoffels linked facts about the Jewish ghetto in Warsaw and the orphanage of the pedagogue Janusz Korczak with the life stories of two fictional children in her youth book Mosje en Reizele .

Her books focus on topics such as social isolation and outsiders' experiences of persecution, abuse and marginalization. She also works on issues relating to the social integration of migrants. She also deals with fundamental questions of social and emotional insecurity among adolescents during puberty. In 2014 she published the Zuiderzeeballade, a novel for an adult reading audience.

Karlijn Stoffels' youth books have received numerous national and international awards, for example Mojse en Reizele received the Gouden Zoen in 1997 and was nominated for the German Youth Literature Prize in 1999 for the translation by Mirjam Pressler .
