Robert Pinget

Robert Pinget (born July 19, 1919 in Geneva , Switzerland ; † August 25, 1997 in Tours , France ) was a Swiss writer and radical exponent of the nouveau roman of French literature. He was a friend and translator of Samuel Beckett .

Life

After studying law , despite his passion for poetry , music and painting , Pinget moved to England , where he first worked as a French teacher, then as a lawyer . In 1946 he moved to Paris to study painting. In 1951 he became a freelance writer, began to travel the world and published a volume of short stories. His first works were fantastic, sometimes ironic and satirical short stories and novels. He later made a living from his work for the theater and various radio stations , eventually also for television and film .

In Germany , Robert Pinget was mainly known for his radio plays . Outside France, its reception took place most effectively in England and Canada .

Pinget died in Tours in August 1997 at the age of 78.
