Ferdinand Ludwig is a German architect and professor for Green Technologies in Landscape Architecture at the Technical University of Munich . As a co-founder of the research area building botany , Ludwig's research primarily focuses on architectural constructions with living plants.

Live and act

Ferdinand Ludwig studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart and was entitled "Botanical basics of living plant constructions and their application in the design" doctorate . In 2007 he founded the research area of ​​building botany at the Institute for Fundamentals of Modern Architecture and Design and was a senior researcher until 2017 . In 2010, together with Daniel Schönle, he founded "ludwig.schönle: Baubotaniker – Architects - Urban Planners", an office cooperation that focuses on the inclusion of the building botanical approach in urban planning and architectural design. In the course of his professional career, Ludwig has designed and implemented numerous building botany projects throughout Germany, such as the plane tree cube in Nagold in 2012 , the building botanical tower in 2009 and the building botanical footbridge in 2005.

Ludwig's research focuses on the integration of the growth processes of living plants into the architectural design and construction. The merging of living plants with the architectural construction enables research into the creative and functional use of plants in the context of building technology. Ludwig's research also focuses on the technical challenges that arise in the context of building botany.
