David Gieselmann

David Gieselmann (* 1972 in Cologne ) is a German playwright and blogger .

Life

Gieselmann grew up in Darmstadt . From 1994 to 1998 he studied scenic writing at the Berlin University of the Arts . While still a student, he staged his own plays in the independent scene. During a residency at the London Royal Court Theater in 1999 he wrote the play Herr Kolpert . The piece was premiered there the following year in a translation by David Tushingham and was shown in the same year at the Berlin Schaubühne on Lehniner Platz in a production by Marius von Mayenburg and Wulf Twiehaus . The piece has meanwhile also been re-enacted in Scandinavia, Italy, Greece, France, Poland, Australia and the USA.

Other plays followed, such as the Christopher Marlowe adaptation of Edward II: King Bube Dame in 2001, the commissioned breakfast for the Hanover Theater in 2003 and the youth play Louis and Louisa in 2007 . In 2007 Gieselmann also wrote the libretto for the opera Onyx Hotel . The music came from Alexander Kukelka . The opera was premiered at the Erlangen Theater.

Gieselmann's radio play Blauzeugen was awarded the audience award in 2000 at the Berlin Academy of the Arts at the “ Radio Drama Week”. This was followed by the radio plays The Android 2001 and 2006 Caruso showers .

His piece Über Jungs was awarded the JugendStückePreis at the Heidelberg Stückemarkt in 2013 .

Gieselmann is also active as a blogger and runs the Popticker blog , on which he deals with pop music .

Gieselmann lives in Hamburg .
