David Tushingham
David Tushingham is an English dramaturge .
Life
Tushingham grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne . He studied English at Oxford University and has since worked as a freelance dramaturge, festival curator and translator in Great Britain and the USA, in Austria and Germany. In German-speaking countries he worked for the Salzburg Festival and the Wiener Festwochen , the Stuttgart State Theater , the German Theater in Hamburg and the Impulse and Theaterformen , Theater der Welt and Ruhrtriennale festivals .
When the Austrian city of Linz was the European Capital of Culture in 2009 , he was responsible for the entire interdisciplinary program of the performing arts. As a production dramaturge at the Salzburg Festival in 2013, he supported directors Brian Mertes and Julian Crouch in their new production of Hofmannsthal'schen Jedermann . The following year he worked in Salzburg on the production 36,566 days , a co-production with the Mozarteum University Salzburg as part of the Festival's Young Directors Project. This production dealt with the outbreak of the First World War a hundred years ago. In the English-speaking world, Tushingham is best known as a translator for German playwrights. He broadcast plays by David Gieselmann , Dea Loher , Falk Richter and Roland Schimmelpfennig . His stage adaptation of Salman Rushdie's Harun and the Sea of Stories premiered at the National Theater in London and has since been performed worldwide.
