Theater der Welt is an international theater festival that was founded in 1981 by the German Center of the International Theater Institute (ITI) and takes place every two / three years in a different city in Germany.

history

In 1979, when the Theater of Nations was a guest in Hamburg, the director of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus and then President of the ITI, Ivan Nagel , developed the idea of ​​establishing such an international festival in Germany as well. Theater of the Nations is a project of the International Theater Institute, Theater of the World was a project of the German ITI Center and is funded by the host city, the respective federal state and the federal government to a third.
