Christophe Slagmuylder

Christophe Slagmuylder (* 1967 in Brussels ) is a Belgian curator and cultural manager . Since 2007 he has been the artistic director of the Belgian festival KunstenFESTIVALdesArts . In June 2018 he was presented as artistic director of the Wiener Festwochen 2019, in October 2018 it was announced that he should take over the artistic director until 2024.

Life

Christophe Slagmuylder studied art history at the Université libre de Bruxelles . He later taught visual theory, among other things, at the Ecole nationale superieure audio-visual (ENSAV) La Cambre in Brussels. From the mid-1990s he was involved in the promotion and production of various dance companies, for example as assistant to the artistic director at the Theater Les Tanneurs in Brussels. In 2002 he became a member of the program team of the Brüssler Kunstenfestivaldesarts , a festival for contemporary art in the fields of theater, dance, performance and visual arts. Since 2007 he has been the successor of the festival founder Frie Leysen , who was acting director of the Wiener Festwochen in 2014 , and has been the artistic director of the Kunstenfestivaldesarts.

In February 2018 he was introduced as program director of the Theater der Welt 2020 festival in Düsseldorf , which takes place every three years in different cities, and Frie Leysen also curated the festival in 2010. In June 2018, Slagmuylder was presented by the Vienna City Councilor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler as the successor to Tomas Zierhofer-Kin , whose contract was prematurely terminated after two seasons, as director of the Wiener Festwochen 2019. Slagmuylder was initially to take over the management on an interim basis for 2019; After taking over the management of the Wiener Festwochen, he handed over his engagement in Düsseldorf to Stefan Schmidtke .

In October 2018 it was announced that his contract as artistic director of the Wiener Festwochen had been concluded until 2024.
