Klaus-Peter Kehr

Klaus-Peter Kehr (* 1940 in Nassig ) is a German dramaturge , theater scholar and artistic director .

After studying at the University of Vienna (doctorate in 1968 with a thesis on Hermann Bahr ), Kehr initially worked primarily as a music theater dramaturge, from 1971 at the Cologne Opera , later in Bonn . From 1991 to 2002 he was responsible for the music program of the Wiener Festwochen . In 1994 he also took over the artistic direction of the music theater of the Schwetzingen Festival , which he held until 2008.

He has worked together for decades with the director Achim Freyer . In addition to his activities at German music theaters, he taught at music and theater schools, including the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, the University of Vienna , the Folkwang University in Essen and the Berlin University of the Arts .

From 2005 to 2016 Klaus-Peter Kehr was opera director at the Nationaltheater Mannheim . During his tenure he established the Mannheim Mozart Summer .

In the last three years of its directorship at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim, the theater received several awards for its opera from the magazine Opernwelt: 3 × world premiere, choir of the year, opera house of the year 2nd place (season 2014/15), and opera house des 1st place in the year (season 2015/16).
