Hortensia Völckers (born October 29, 1957 in Buenos Aires ) is a German curator and cultural manager , and since March 2002 artistic director of the Federal Cultural Foundation .

Hortensia Völckers was born as a child of German emigrants (mother a sculptor, father a businessman). She was a talented swimmer and was in the Olympic squad of Argentina without receiving a nomination for the 1972 Games in Munich . In the run-up to the looming military dictatorship in Argentina, her parents thought it advisable to send her to Munich to study. At the Studienkolleg there , she completed a German Abitur in 1976 and then studied political science and art history in Munich without completing the rules. During this time she was on a scholarship at New York University for a year .

Their livelihood they earned freelancing as an independent curator of exhibitions, organizer of dance festivals and director of the Vienna Festival . She was Catherine David's right-hand man in organizing documenta X in the 1990s . Julian Nida-Rümelin appointed her in 2002 as founding director of the Federal Culture Foundation to be founded.

Völcker's office of the Federal Cultural Foundation is in Halle an der Saale in the building of the Francke Foundations .
