Veronica Kaup-Hasler (born July 16, 1968 in Dresden , German Democratic Republic (GDR) ) is a German - Austrian cultural and theater scholar , dramaturge , cultural manager , politician ( non-party , nominated by the SPÖ ) and, since May 24, 2018, Viennese City councilor in the state government and city senate Ludwig , responsible for culture and science. Life

Kaup-Hasler is the daughter of the East German singer Friedrun Kaup and the Austrian actor Ferdinand Kaup . In 1970 the family managed to leave the GDR for Vienna. After graduating from high school, Kaup-Hasler began studying German , theater studies , political science and ethnology at the University of Vienna , which she completed in 1993 in theater studies.

After working as a dramaturge at the Theater Basel from 1993 to 1995, she worked at the Wiener Festwochen as a festival dramaturge from 1995 to 2001 and from 1998 as an artistic assistant to the theater director Luc Bondy . In addition to this activity, she was also a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Erich Wonder's master class from 1998 to 2001 .

From 2001 to 2004 she directed the Theaterformen festival , which takes place every two years in Hanover and Braunschweig . The festival for advanced, contemporary theater and performance also made a name for itself under her leadership as a place to cross borders towards other arts. Veronica Kaup-Hasler is also active as a juror in various international juries and foundations and has been a member of the University Council of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 2008 .

At the end of September 2004, Kaup-Hasler was appointed director of the contemporary art festival steirischer herbst , which she directed from 2006 to 2017. In the twelve years of its directorship, the festival increased its presence in Styria outside of Graz, with “ Die Kinder der Toten ” (2017) - the first film adaptation of Elfriede Jelinek 's novel of the same name at original locations in and around Neuberg an der Mürz - as the largest project . On May 14, 2018, Kaup-Hasler was introduced by the designated mayor Michael Ludwig as the future Viennese city councilor for culture by the state government and city senate Ludwig as the successor to Andreas Mailath-Pokorny .
