Stefan Schmidtke

Stefan Schmidtke (* 1968 in Döbeln ) is a German dramaturge , translator and cultural manager . In 2015 he was acting curator for the Wiener Festwochen .

life and work

After graduating from high school, Schmidtke worked as an assistant director, among others at the Thalia Theater Halle and the Volksbühne Berlin , as well as for GDR television , later for ARD and ZDF. From 1992 to 1996 he studied directing at the Russian Theater Academy in Moscow. Then he got a job in the BARACKE team at the Deutsches Theater Berlin . In 1999 she worked as a director in Moscow , Omsk and St. Petersburg . From 2000 Schmidtke acted as curator and head of the summer academy of the " Festival Theaterformen " in Lower Saxony and from 2011 to 2014 also as head dramaturge at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus . Since 2001 he has been working as a freelance dramaturge at the theater of the Stuttgart State Theater and as curator and director of the event series "forumfestwochen ff" of the Wiener Festwochen .

In 2015 Schmidtke is responsible for the acting program of the Wiener Festwochen . He will also support Marina Davydova's programming as head dramaturge in 2016 and will be part of the team of Artistic Director Tomas Zierhofer-Kin from 2017 .

Stefan Schmidtke translated summer wasps from Russian by Ivan Wyrypajew in November , as well as a number of Yevgeny Grishkovets ' works.

In September 2018 he was introduced as program director of the Theater der Welt 2020 festival in Düsseldorf , which takes place every three years in different cities , after the originally intended Christophe Slagmuylder gave up this obligation after taking over the management of the Wiener Festwochen 2019.
