Richard Maxwell

Richard Maxwell (born November 23, 1967 in Fargo ) is an American director , theater director , author and musician .

Life

Maxwell received his acting training from 1986 to 1990 at Illinois State University . In 1990 he became a member of the Steppenwolf Theater Company in Chicago , where he founded the Cook Country Theater Department with Gary Wilmes in 1992. In 1994 he went to New York , where he became artistic director of the New York City Players in 1998.

His early plays, written and directed by himself, include Billings (1996), Flight Courier Service (1997), Burger King (1997) and Ute Mnos. v. Crazy Liquors (1998). In 1998 he had a great success with House at the Ontological Theater , which was shown in guest performances in 1999 at the Theater der Welt in Berlin . Since then, Maxwell has been present in Europe with guest performances and productions. He also acted as a co-producer with American and European theaters.

Maxwell composes the songs of his pieces himself, performs them with a band and publishes them. As a versatile cultural worker, he breaks the boundaries of traditional understanding of theater.
