Roderich Feldes (born December 21, 1946 in Offdilln ; † May 10, 1996 in Eiershausen ) was a German writer and PEN member.

Life

Feldes and the later writer Gert Loschütz visited the old-language branch of the Wilhelm-von-Oranien-Schule in Dillenburg , where they published poems in the school newspaper Funzel . Just one year after graduating from high school in 1967, Feldes ' first volume of poetry, haubergsnelken, was published by Suhrkamp Verlag . After studying German , linguistics and philosophy in Giessen and Frankfurt and after receiving his doctorate as Dr. phil. he worked as a freelance writer in Eibelshausen near his birthplace Offdilln. His childhood in the still rural village remained a formative experience for him. Until his early death in 1996, he lived with his family in the neighboring town of Eiershausen , where he worked in village associations. For many years he was the secretary of the local choral society and co-initiator of the Eschenburg local history museum (now the regional museum). With its regular exhibitions of folklore objects, this voluntary museum enables a glimpse into past and present everyday culture and is developing into a meeting place for the surrounding villages.

Feldes created an extensive literary work consisting of novels , short stories , poems , short prose and a large number of radio plays and documentary radio plays . Some of his works have also been made into films. Feldes also worked scientifically, both independently and as an editor. He did his doctorate on The Word as a Tool . In 1978 the comprehensive study Magic, the Unconscious Power was published .

Feldes saw himself as a witness of a turning point. Connected to his home in the upper Dilltal , he kept a critical inner distance to the immediate events around him in his writing. He describes the change in village life as a result of the highly armed consumer world and states that society is crumbling into individuals, "because the whole spectrum of life is no longer the bracket". About his situation as a writer in the village, he said that even if the urbanization of the villages could not be stopped, there was still an exemplary social network in which the general social reality was more accurately reflected, at least more clearly visible to him than that in of a bigger city.

Awards

Feldes was honored with the Georg Mackensen Literature Prize in 1976 for his short story Die Einnürung . In 1980/81 he received the Märkische Stipendium for literature .
