Vihanti

Vihanti [ ˈʋiɦɑnti ] is a place in western Finland . It is located around 70 kilometers south of the city of Oulu in the coastal hinterland of the northern Ostrobothnian landscape .
Location and history
The place covers an area of 491.91 km 2 , of which 4.95 km 2 are inland water. The formerly independent municipality had the municipality number 926. At the time of the dissolution of the municipality on December 31, 2012 it had 3,022 inhabitants, the population density was 6.2 inhabitants / km².
The former community, which was incorporated into Raahe in 2013 , included the villages of Alpua, Ilveskorpi, Lampinsaari and Myllyperä – Perukka in addition to the church village Vihanti. From 1954 to 1992 copper, zinc and lead were mined in Lampinsaari. Since the closure of the last mine operated by the mining company Outokumpu , the town has lost many residents to their relocation.
Attractions
Sights include the wooden church built by Simon Silvén-Jylkä in 1784 with a free-standing bell tower, a wooden Russian Orthodox chapel, a boulder called "Kirchstein" ( Finnish : kirkkokivi ), which resembles a huge throne, as well as a local museum and a home center an architecturally known library.

The orienteer Pasi Ikonen (* 1980) was born in Vihanti.
