Pasi Päiviö Ikonen (born June 30, 1980 in Vihanti , Northern Ostrobothnia ) is a Finnish orienteer .

career

Ikonen won the gold medal with the Finnish relay at the 1999 Junior World Championships in Varna, Bulgaria . At the 2001 World Championships for women and men in Tampere , Finland , Pasi Ikonen won two medals: In the 2.6 kilometer sprint, Ikonen finished second behind Swede Jimmy Birklin . Over the middle distance (4.1 kilometers and 15 posts) Ikonen won ahead of the Norwegians Tore Sandvik and Jørgen Rostrup , thus winning his only gold medal at world championships. In 2003 he was fourth in the middle distance at the World Championships in Switzerland. In 2007 he won bronze in the relay competition with the Finnish team. With the Finnish relay, he had already become European champion in 2002 and 2004. At the 2011 World Cup in Savoie, France, he finished second in the long distance behind Thierry Gueorgiou from France.

Others

Ikonen started in 2006 for the Vaajakosken Terä club , before that for the Oulu- based club SK Pohjantähti . In 1999 Ikonen came second in the Jukola season, and in 2010 third. During his career he suffered from alcohol problems, which also caused his relationship with orienteer Minna Kauppi to fail.
