Maria, he doesn't like it! (Novel)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maria, he doesn't like it! - Stories from my Italian Kinship is a book by the German author Jan Weiler from 2003.

The book followed an article for an Italy special, which Weiler wrote as editor-in-chief of the Süddeutsche Zeitung magazine when it received an initially unexpected positive response. Like the article, the book is primarily about his Italian father-in-law Antonio and his life story, which Weiler gained insight into during a trip to Italy. In several episodes next Antonios tales partly authentic and partly fictitious more stories from the hamlet by marriage Italian clan portrayed.

In this way, the book approaches the serious topic of being a stranger in a humorous way and overcoming it, sometimes in vain.

The title has also been available as an audio book since 2007 , which appeared in several parts as a supplement in the magazine Stern , in which Weiler's column “My life as a person” appears between 2007 and 2009 , in which Antonio appears repeatedly. The audio book was recorded by Weiler himself and Konrad Beikircher (as Antonio), among others . As a special highlight, the two CDs of the audio book are packed in a small pizza box.

A follow-up book was published in 2005 under the title Antonio in Wonderland .

By December 2009 the book had sold over 1.7 million copies in Germany alone.
