Prix Renaudot
The Prix Théophraste Renaudot ( Prix Renaudot for short ) is one of the five major French literary prizes . The award has been given since 1926 and is named after the founder of modern journalism in France Théophraste Renaudot (1586–1653).
The winner is announced every year at the beginning of November in the Drouant restaurant in Paris on the same day as the Prix Goncourt winner . In advance, the ten-member jury - consisting of literary critics - always selects two possible winners (in the event that one of the two works has already been awarded the Prix Goncourt).
The jury of the Prix Renaudot is not dependent on the Académie Goncourt. The Prix Renaudot is therefore also considered a compensatory complement to the Prix Goncourt. In addition to the award for the best novel, prizes are also awarded in the categories of Best Essay (French: Prix Renaudot de l'essai ), Best Paperback (Prix Renaudot du livre de poche) and a prize for promoting reading among students (Prix Renaudot des lycéens) awarded.
