Andreas Baesler

Andreas Baesler (* 1960 in Cuxhaven ) is a German music theater and drama director.

Life

After studying journalism and German literature at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , Baesler completed the directing class at the Folkwang School in Essen, which he left in 1985 to switch to the Münchner Kammerspiele as an intern and later as an assistant .

Baesler worked as a director 1987 to 1989 at the Municipal Theater Ulm and from 1990 to 1993 at the Brussels National Opera " La Monnaie " under the direction of Gerard Mortier , where he served as assistant to Herbert Wernicke , Karl-Ernst and Ursel Hermann and Peter Mussbach active was. This was followed by engagements as a freelance director, as a member of the board of directors of the Lucerne Theater (1996–1999), as opera director at the Volkstheater Rostock (2000–2002), and as chief director at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen (2004–2008).

Since 1982, Baesler has created around 160 productions in music and spoken theater, including a number of world premieres. He was a guest at the Hamburg State Opera , the National Theater Mannheim , the Aalto Theater in Essen, the State Theaters in Nuremberg, Braunschweig, Schwerin and Oldenburg, the opera houses in Frankfurt / M., Augsburg , Erfurt , Freiburg , Krefeld, Regensburg, Münster and Weimar, the Austrian state theaters in Innsbruck and Linz , the Klagenfurt Theater, the Opéra de Nancy , the Opéra du Rhin Strasbourg, the Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse , the Grand Théâtre de la Ville and the Théâtre des Capucins in Luxembourg, the Teatro Liríco Nacional de Cuba in Havana, the Teatro Lírico de Holguín, Opera Panamá and the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. In addition, Baesler staged at the RuhrTriennale , the International Music Festival in Lucerne, the Gluck Festival in Nuremberg, Musik & Theater Saar, the Festival for Early Music in Cologne ZAMUS, in the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site and for foreign projects of the Goethe Institute.

Since March 2016, Andreas Baesler has been a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim . Since 2017 he has headed the Institute for Music Theater there.

Awards

Andreas Baesler received in the 2005/2006 season, the Theater Academy Rheinische Post as an audience award for best musical theater production ( Death in Venice by Benjamin Britten ). In the 2006/2007 season he was awarded the Gelsenkirchen Theater Prize.
