Philippe Hériat (* as Raymond Gérard Payelle, September 15, 1898 in Paris ; † October 10, 1971 there ) was a French writer and actor.

Hériat came from a family of high officials and served in the First World War . He was assistant to the film director René Clair and had various roles in silent films from 1920, for example in films by Marcel L'Herbier , in 1924 in the period film Le Miracle des loups (The Miracle of the Wolves) by Raymond Bernard and in 1927 in Napoléon by Abel Gance . He also played theater and wrote the screenplay for Le Secret de Mayerling in 1949 with its director Jean Delannoy .

In 1939 he received the Prix ​​Goncourt for Les enfants gâtés . It is part of a novel cycle about the Boussardel family from the Second Empire to the 1950s. Another part of the cycle (Famille Boussardel, 1946) received the Grand Prix du Roman of the Académie française . Other parts were Les Grilles d'or and Le Temps d'aimer (1968). It was filmed in a television series in 1972. He received the Prix ​​Renaudot for his debut novel L'innocent . For a long time he was the only author to receive both the Prix Goncourt and the Prix Renaudot ( François Weyergans was added later).

From 1947 he also published plays.

From 1949 to 1971 he was a member of the Académie Goncourt .
