Life

With this book he achieved the great sensation of the French book autumn of 2003: The Gray Souls was awarded the Prix Renaudot , voted Book of the Year and was number 1 on the bestseller list for months. Die Grau Seelen was also extremely successful in Germany . To my daughter is Philippe Claudel's third novel, a touching testimony to humanity.
His first feature film shot as a director, So Many Years I Love You , premiered in 2008 at the 58th Berlinale . The drama stars British actress Kristin Scott Thomas in the lead role of a woman who, after serving several years in prison for murder, tries to establish contact with her younger sister (played by Elsa Zylberstein ), who herself has a happy family with her husband and founded two adopted children.
Philippe Claudel studied literature and is a trained educator with a state license. Before starting his literary career, he taught in a Nancy prison for eleven years . There he still teaches at the university today . Also the character of Michel in his film So Many Years I Love You , in which the released prisoner gradually opens up humanely, is a literature lecturer and former prison teacher in Nancy. In the autobiographical notes, The Sound of Keys , Claudel describes his impressions from his time as a prison teacher in short, consecutive episodes.
