The Friedenauer Presse was founded in the Berlin district of Friedenau in 1963 by Andreas Wolff, the grandson of the Saint Petersburg bookseller and publisher Moritz Wolff . 36 printed works had appeared there by 1971. From 1983 to 2017 Katharina Wagenbach-Wolff ran the publishing house, which was awarded the Kurt Wolff Prize in 2006. The reason stated:

“Verlag Friedenauer Presse was awarded the Kurt Wolff Prize for its persistence in bringing Russian literature closer to the German public , for the joy of discovery with which it presented finds from world literature - especially international classical modernism - for reprinting , with which he commemorates the age of the revolution and the Holocaust and, last but not least, for the reliability with which the publisher gives the books a careful design and lively physiognomy . Currently (as of May 2020) the publishing house is managed by Friederike Jacob.
