The Hamburgische Kulturstiftung is a foundation under private law with headquarters in Hamburg , established in 1988 , which promotes contemporary art and culture in the city. The initiator was the then Senator for Culture of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Ingo von Münch . The city of Hamburg provided the founding capital of DM 2.5 million.

goals and tasks

Under the motto "Promote talents - donate the future!", The Hamburg Cultural Foundation advocates young artists as well as children's and youth culture in the Hanseatic city. Since it was founded in 1988, it has supported more than 1,900 projects with a total volume of 15 million euros (as of the end of 2019).

The focus is on promoting young artists in the fields of performing arts (theater, dance, performance, music theater), visual arts, music, literature, film, photography, children's and youth culture as well as interdisciplinary projects. As a support foundation, the Hamburgische Kulturstiftung does not set up its own programs, but relies on the wealth of ideas and the daring of young cultural workers. Through its project funding, it enables talents who are at the beginning of their careers to realize their plans in Hamburg and thus makes it easier for them to get started with professionalism.

The Hamburgische Kulturstiftung has a comparatively low capital of around 8 million euros (including the sub-foundations). That is why it acquires the funds for cultural funding year after year through active fundraising, such as B. a circle of friends, benefit events and project sponsorships. As a mediator between private sponsors, companies, other foundations and cultural institutions, she also initiates cooperation for the long-term funding of important cultural projects. In addition, it manages several trust foundations under its roof. The Hamburg Cultural Foundation can currently support around 150 artistic projects per year with around 1 million euros.

Sub-foundations

The foundation manages 17 sub-foundations, including nine dependent foundations (including three consumer foundations), an independent foundation, five foundation funds and a legacy:

  • the CORA Art Foundation for the promotion of art and culture in the field of fine arts in Hamburg
  • the Dr. Ursula Kuhn Music Foundation for the education and training of musically gifted children and young people in the field of classical music as well as the provision of the musical instruments required for this
  • The Feldtmann Kulturell Foundation for the promotion of art and culture in the field of music, in particular by introducing young people to music through appropriate funding measures and projects
  • the Karl-Heinz Zillmer Foundation for the promotion of literature and its communication through the award of the "Karl-Heinz Zillmer Prize" for meritorious publishing
  • the Kulturstiftung Zillmer for the promotion of art and culture of all branches and for the promotion of the preservation, the safeguarding and the acquisition of valuable architectural and cultural monuments, of art objects and collections
  • the art and literature foundation Petra and K.-H. Zillmer to promote art and culture in the fields of fine arts and literature
  • Richard Schönfeld Foundation for the award of the "Richard Schönfeld Prize for Literary Satire"
  • the Irmgard Heilmann Foundation for the promotion of literature and young literary talent in Hamburg
  • the endowment fund for young musicians and singers to promote particularly talented young artists e.g. B. through master classes or other advanced training measures
  • the Dr. Margitta and Dietmar Lambert Foundation Fund for the promotion of young artists in Hamburg, in particular the promotion of gifted children in the fields of classical music, classical dance / ballet, theater and literature (poetry)
  • the KinderKulturFonds to promote art and culture for children and young people
  • the Ingeborg and Hellmuth Spielmann Foundation Fund for the promotion of art and culture in Hamburg, especially in the field of classical music
  • the legacy of Rita-Tanck-Glaser for the award of the Rita-Tanck-Glaser Acting Prize for outstanding performance, especially on the Hamburg stages

Prices

Various cultural prizes are currently being awarded by the foundation - also on behalf of private donors or in cooperation with other institutions:

  • the Karl Heinz Zillmer Prize for meritorious publishing work
  • the short film award "Threesome" for the best Hamburg short film as part of the Hamburg International Short Film Festival
  • the Hamburg Children's Theater Prize, which is donated by the Harmonie Society and awarded in cooperation with the Hamburg Cultural Foundation
  • the Hamburg District Culture Prize donated by the Hamburger Wochenblatt-Verlag . In addition to the publisher, the Hamburg Cultural Foundation, the Patriotic Society, the State Association of Socioculture and the Hamburg Cultural Authority with the Department for District and Socioculture are involved in awarding the prize
  • the Werner Burkhardt Music Prize for a young jazz musician

Bodies

The board consists of the honorary chairman and the incumbent executive board. The eight-member board of trustees decides u. a. about the affairs of the foundation, about the annual accounts as well as about the proposals submitted by the board about the use of the funds. The board of trustees of the Hamburgische Kulturstiftung is made up of sponsors, experts and representatives of the cultural authority and provides advice, among other things. a. the board of trustees in fulfilling its tasks.
